Freedom for Mr. Man-hee Lee

Freedom for Mr. Man-hee Lee

Widespread condemnation has emerged from the media, human rights organizations, and members of the public following the arrest of elderly activist Mr. Man-hee Lee, President of HWPL International.

We express our strong condemnation and denounce in the strongest possible terms the arrest of Mr. Man-hee Lee, an elderly activist and President of HWPL, who is over ninety years old and may not be able to withstand the harsh conditions of imprisonment. This action by the Korean authorities violates the most basic standards of morality and humanity and constitutes a serious violation of human rights and the rights and dignity of the elderly.

Mr. Man-hee Lee is a symbol of the pursuit of peace and human rights. He has dedicated his life to building a world based on coexistence and tolerance, and his decades-long contributions and efforts cannot be overlooked.

His detention at such an advanced age reflects a blatant disregard for the values of compassion and justice and contradicts the principles upheld by international law and human rights standards.

We demand that the Korean authorities immediately release Mr. Man-hee Lee and issue a formal apology for an action that tarnishes the reputation of Korea before the international community.

His continued detention places his health and life at risk and is a disgrace to the institutions responsible for this action.

While we affirm our respect for the rule of law, respect for the law should not come at the expense of humanity and compassion, especially when dealing with elderly individuals who have contributed so much to their communities and to humanity as a whole.

We call upon the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action and urge the Korean authorities to release Mr. Man-hee Lee and restore respect for his achievements and dignity.

We call upon everyone to stand in solidarity with Mr. Man-hee Lee and to stand for peace and justice. Attempts to restrict his freedom will not deter us from defending human rights and human dignity.
